UCV students protest at Maiquetía Airport for María Corina Machado's return
Students from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) held a protest at Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía to demand the safe return of opposition leader María Corina Machado to the country.
Spokespersons from the Federation of University Centers (FCU-UCV) stated they are demanding that Machado be allowed to enter Venezuela without threats, restrictions, or intimidation. The protest follows reports from Machado’s press team alleging that she has attempted to return from Panama three times this week but was prevented from doing so.
Student leaders cited Article 50 of the Constitution, arguing that Venezuelan citizens have the right to enter the country without authorization and that no public power may impose penalties of exile against nationals. The demonstrators also reiterated their support for Machado’s demands regarding the scheduling of presidential elections.
