Udupi police shoot Mumbai gangster accused in David D’Souza murder

Anuj Patil, a Mumbai-based gangster suspected of orchestrating the murder of businessman David D’Souza, was shot in the leg by police in Udupi, India. The incident occurred while Patil was being taken into custody following his arrest in the Hebri police station limits.

According to police reports, Patil allegedly attacked officers, snatched a service weapon from Kollur PSI Vinay, and opened fire. In response, Kundapura PSI Nanja Nayak shot Patil in the leg in self-defence. Patil was subsequently admitted to the Ajjarkad Government Hospital for treatment.

Patil is accused of arranging three shooters to kill D’Souza, the owner of Prince Enterprises and a local Congress leader, on August 7 at the St Xavier Church Complex. Patil has been absconding since 2017 and faces 11 criminal cases across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Daman and Diu, and Karnataka, including charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
