UEFA threatens boycott of FIFA tournaments over Infantino privatization plan

The European football federation UEFA announced it will boycott all competitions organised by FIFA, citing a loss of trust in President Gianni Infantino. The decision follows Infantino’s proposal to privatise the World Cup – a plan that allegedly involved the Trump family – which UEFA says was not withdrawn and threatens the integrity of the sport. UEFA chief Aleksander Čeferin stated that the federation’s conditions for participation have not been met, and that an apology from FIFA does not change the boycott stance.

Amid the dispute, Infantino travelled to Colombia to attend the inauguration of President Abelardo de la Espriella and to meet CONMEBOL officials, seeking political support. CONMEBOL has publicly backed Infantino, while UEFA continues to press for guarantees that FIFA will not pursue similar commercial reforms. The ongoing conflict threatens the organization of upcoming international tournaments and highlights a deepening governance rift within world football.
