The United States announced it will cease funding for the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) after 31 December 2026, cutting the logistical backbone that sustains the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Leaders warned that without a reversal of the US decision, the mission could face a collapse similar to Afghanistan’s 2021 withdrawal.
