Uganda leaders call for military mentorship and government accountability
Ugandan military and government leaders have issued calls for increased discipline, accountability, and coordination within state institutions.
Brigadier General Michael Walaka Hyeroba, Commander of the 3 Infantry Division, urged Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) to mentor junior soldiers. He emphasized that NCOs must act as role models to maintain professionalism and discipline within the ranks.
Separately, leaders of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) were instructed to improve the implementation of government programs. Major General Henry Masiko and Lucy Nakyobe, Secretary to the Cabinet, called for better monitoring, reduced bureaucracy, and zero tolerance for corruption to ensure that presidential directives and agricultural initiatives effectively improve household incomes and service delivery.
