Ugandan military and government accountability efforts
Overview
Ugandan military and government leaders have emphasized the need for increased discipline, accountability, and coordination within state institutions.
Brigadier General Michael Walaka Hyeroba, Commander of the 3 Infantry Division, called on Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) in the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) to mentor junior soldiers and act as role models to maintain professionalism.
Concurrently, leaders of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) were instructed to improve the implementation of government programs. Major General Henry Masiko and Secretary to the Cabinet Lucy Nakyobe advocated for better monitoring, reduced bureaucracy, and a “zero tolerance for corruption” to ensure that agricultural initiatives and presidential directives effectively improve service delivery and household incomes.
