Uganda ministers inspect stalled projects as four Mbale officials interdicted over corruption
Minister of Local Government Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi and Minister of State for Local Government Justine Nameere Nsubuga toured several regions of Uganda, inspecting roads, markets, health centres and schools that have been delayed, abandoned or delivered below expectations. Their visits have drawn public attention to the misuse of billions of shillings allocated for infrastructure and have intensified calls for greater accountability from politicians, contractors and professional bodies such as the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers.
In a related move, the Ministry of Local Government ordered the immediate interdiction of four senior officials in Mbale District – the District Health Officer, Principal Education Officer, District Inspector of Schools and Principal Human Resource Officer. The directive, issued by Permanent Secretary Ben Kumumanya after a meeting convened by the Minister, cites allegations of gross negligence, abuse of office, mismanagement of public resources and possible financial impropriety. The officials will step aside while the State House Anti‑Corruption Unit and other agencies investigate the complaints.
