Uganda Parliament investigates cattle restocking program fraud

The Ugandan Parliament has launched an investigation into alleged fraud within a national cattle restocking program designed to revitalize economies in conflict-affected regions. An inquiry led by the Presidential Affairs Parliamentary Committee, headed by MP Martin Ojara Mapenduzi, has identified significant irregularities in the distribution of funds in Gulu.

Investigations suggest instances of nepotism and corruption, with local officials accused of adding themselves, their relatives, and spouses to beneficiary lists. This practice has reportedly excluded vulnerable groups, including the elderly, widows, single mothers, persons with disabilities, and former LRA captives. While Gulu was allocated 3.332 trillion shillings to support 667 households, local services indicated that only 640 beneficiaries had received funds at the time of evaluation.
