Uganda Parliament pledges funding and staff boost for IGG

Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth Oboth has pledged parliamentary support to strengthen the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) in its fight against corruption. Following the presentation of the agency’s 55th Bi-Annual Performance Report by Inspector General Aisha Naluzze Batala, the Speaker directed that the report be tabled for debate.

To bolster the watchdog’s capacity, Oboth committed to supporting the recruitment of staff for 168 vacant positions, increasing operational funding, and amending legislation to close legal loopholes. He warned that corruption has become a highly organized, international industry with evolving tactics to evade detection.

The performance report for January–June 2026 noted that investigations into financial impropriety led to recovery orders of approximately Shs41.6 billion, with Shs5.7 billion already recovered in cash and assets. Additionally, the agency secured 26 convictions out of 29 prosecuted cases.
