Uganda Partners with WHO and Africa CDC to Boost Regional Health Security

The WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Mohamed Yakub Janabi, and the Africa CDC Director‑General, Dr. Jean Kaseya, visited Uganda on a high‑level joint mission to strengthen regional health security. They met with Vice President Jessica Alupo, Health Minister Chris Baryomunsi and other senior officials to review Uganda’s response to the recent Ebola outbreak and to discuss ongoing risks from the epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The delegation praised Uganda’s rapid detection, containment efforts and cross‑border collaboration with the DRC, noting the deployment of emergency medical personnel and support for surveillance. Officials emphasized the need to sustain surveillance systems, laboratory capacity, infection‑prevention measures, rapid‑response mechanisms and community engagement to remain prepared for future public‑health threats.
