Uganda President pledges readiness to co-host AFCON 2027

President Yoweri Museveni has pledged that Uganda will meet all necessary requirements to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Tanzania. The commitment was made during a meeting on September 22, 2026, with a technical delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), including Secretary General Samson Adamu and Country Infrastructure Manager Bianca Wambui.

Following inspections of stadiums and training facilities, the CAF delegation commended the progress made in infrastructure development. While facilities in the Kampala area are considered sufficient, President Museveni noted that the government will now focus on improving infrastructure in upcountry regions. He cited Uganda’s successful hosting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit as evidence of the nation's capability to manage large-scale international events.

Additionally, CAF officials urged Uganda to expedite a single visa arrangement with Kenya and Tanzania. This measure is intended to facilitate easier movement for fans, teams, and officials across the three host nations during the tournament scheduled for June 2027.
