Uganda promotes coffee production through seedlings and soil management

Uganda is implementing initiatives to boost coffee production and quality to strengthen its position in the global market. In the Mityana district, Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development Judith Nabakooba Nalule launched the distribution of 50,000 coffee seedlings to farmers. These seedlings are intended for participants in the Parish Development Model (PDM) to help improve household incomes and facilitate socio-economic transformation.

In the Bunyoro sub-region, industry leaders are urging farmers to adopt modern agricultural practices to combat declining coffee quality. Paul Martin Maraka, Executive Director of the Uganda Coffee Federation, emphasized the necessity of proper soil management, fertilizer application, mulching, and irrigation. These interventions are viewed as essential for meeting the quality requirements of both domestic and international markets and increasing overall yields.
