Uganda to extradite two Kenyan suspects in Dr. Mutiso murder case
Uganda is set to extradite two Kenyan suspects to Kenya following their arrest in Kampala in connection with the murder of neuroscientist Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso. The suspects, identified as Police Constable Collins Kiplangat Bett and Pius Muiru Mbugua, were apprehended in the Nakawa suburb of Kampala through a coordinated operation involving the Kenyan Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Uganda Police Force, and Interpol.
Investigations indicate that Dr. Mutiso, a former director of the African Institute of Mental and Brain Health, was killed in a gangland-style shooting in Nairobi's Upper Hill area on July 29, 2026. Detectives established that Bett was involved in surveillance and served as a co-driver during the attack, while Mbugua acted as a paymaster for the execution team.
A third suspect, Samuel Karanja Gathoni, was intercepted by investigators in Nairobi. The Ugandan Foreign Affairs ministry is currently processing the extradition request to facilitate the suspects' return to Kenya to face murder charges in the Kenyan High Court.
