Uganda urges diaspora to boost investment and national development

Ugandan government officials have called on the diaspora community in the Australasian region to transition from providing remittances to becoming strategic drivers of national economic transformation. During the UG@64 Australasian Independence Gala, Business and Cultural Convention in Melbourne, Australia, leaders emphasized the importance of direct investment and skill sharing.

Minister for the Presidency Babirye Milly Babalanda urged Ugandans living in Australia and surrounding areas to promote the country’s international image and contribute expertise to national development. Similarly, Minister of Local Government Balaam Barugahara, representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, stated that patriotism should be reflected through business establishment and job creation.

The President’s message encouraged the diaspora to explore specific sectors including manufacturing, commercial agriculture, tourism, technology, and value addition to support Uganda’s industrialization and productive economy.
