Ugandan athletes secure professional moves to Morocco

Two Ugandan athletes have secured professional moves to Moroccan clubs.

Basketball player Hope Akello, assistant captain of the Uganda Gazelles, has signed her first professional contract with Majd Tanja in Morocco. Akello, who previously played for JKL Lady Dolphins and helped Uganda reach the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket quarter-finals, transitioned to the professional ranks following a career that included academic pursuits at Ndejje and Victoria University.

In football, midfielder Allan Okello has completed a three-year transfer to the Moroccan club AS FAR Rabat. Okello joins from Tanzanian champions Young Africans, where he contributed 14 goals and nine assists to their league title. His career has previously included stints in Uganda with KCCA and Vipers, as well as a period in Algeria with Paradou AC.
