Ugandan police arrest 94 suspects in metropolitan crime crackdown

Police in Uganda conducted a series of overnight operations across the Kampala Metropolitan Area, resulting in the arrest of 94 suspects. The crackdown targeted criminal hotspots and suspected gangs between midnight and 05:00 am on 19 August 2026.

Arrests were distributed across several locations: 38 suspects were taken into custody in Kabalagala, 22 in Mukono, 21 in the Nagalama area, and 13 in the Kira Road Division. During these operations, authorities recovered various exhibits, including suspected narcotic substances and other items linked to criminal activity.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala stated that these intelligence-led, targeted operations are intended to disrupt crime and protect public property. Police have encouraged citizens to report suspicious activities to local stations.
