Uganda's Museveni reports five‑day Ebola lull, pledges continued preparedness

Uganda has gone five consecutive days without recording a new Ebola infection, prompting President Yoweri Museveni to announce the progress in a national address. He praised the containment measures, urged citizens to stay vigilant, avoid handshakes and follow health guidelines, and stressed that health is more important than wealth.

In a separate meeting with WHO Director‑General Tedros Ghebreyesus, Museveni reiterated Uganda’s readiness to tackle the outbreak. He highlighted that 19 confirmed cases remain, most linked to a single family crossing from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and confirmed that no new infections have been reported in the past three days. The government plans to set up four medical camps near the Uganda‑DRC border to treat patients before they cross, and has suspended the annual Uganda Martyrs Day pilgrimage to prevent a potential super‑spreader event. WHO praised the decisive actions and pledged continued technical and logistical support.
