UGC NET June 2026 Result Delay Sparks Student Protests in India

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has not yet released the provisional answer key or final results for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) held in June 2026. The exam, conducted from June 22 to June 30 across 87 subjects, determines eligibility for Junior Research Fellowships, assistant‑professor posts and PhD admissions.

The prolonged wait has created uncertainty for thousands of candidates, prompting criticism of the NTA’s lack of communication. The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) sent a formal letter to the UGC and NTA on August 2, demanding a clear timeline, the release of the provisional answer key, and swift completion of the evaluation process. Attempts to contact NTA Director General Abhishek Singh have gone unanswered. Students, such as Bidisha, a political‑studies graduate from JNU, expressed frustration that the delay threatens academic and career plans.

Historical data shows provisional answer keys are typically released 6–14 days after the exam, with results following 22–45 days later. The current delay deviates from that pattern, raising concerns about transparency and possible irregularities in the examination process.
