UGL awarded contract for APA Group solar and battery project

UGL, a CIMIC Group company, has been awarded a contract by APA Group to deliver the Sybella Creek Solar Farm and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Mount Isa, Queensland. The A$259 million ($184 million) development will feature a 72MW solar farm and a 52MW/104MWh battery storage facility.

The project is designed to support regional mining operations in Queensland’s North West Minerals Province, specifically backed by an Energy Supply Agreement with Ernest Henry Mining, a subsidiary of Evolution Mining, which runs until mid-2046. The initiative aims to provide a more reliable and lower-emissions electricity supply to the Mount Isa region.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2026, with project completion scheduled for mid-2028. The facility will be located on Kalkadoon Traditional Owner freehold land.
