UIDAI sets September 30 deadline for free child Aadhaar biometric updates
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has set a deadline of September 30 for free biometric updates for children under the ‘Baal Aadhaar’ (Child Aadhaar) scheme. This mandatory update applies to children aged between 5 and 17 years.
For children under the age of 5, initial Aadhaar registration typically does not include fingerprints or iris scans. Once a child reaches age 5, a first-time biometric update involving photographs, fingerprints, and iris scans is required. A subsequent update is necessary after the age of 15.
Completing these updates before the deadline ensures that the process remains free of charge. If the update is performed after September 30, a fee will be required. Timely updates are essential for school admissions, accessing government schemes, banking, and identity verification for major examinations such as NEET, JEE, and CUET.
