UIDAI Aadhaar update policies and fees
Overview
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued guidance regarding biometric updates and fee structures for Aadhaar cards.
Initially, the UIDAI established a September 30 deadline for free biometric updates under the ‘Baal Aadhaar’ (Child Aadhaar) scheme. This mandatory process applies to children aged 5 to 17 to ensure identity verification for essential services such as school admissions, banking, and major examinations.
Following the deadline, the UIDAI clarified the official fee structure to prevent overcharging at service centers. While new enrollments and mandatory biometric updates for specific age groups (5 to 7 and 15 to 17) remain free, other updates incur costs. Demographic updates cost ₹75, while biometric updates cost ₹125. If both are performed simultaneously, the fee is capped at ₹125. The authority also noted that citizens can use the myAadhaar portal to update Proof of Identity and Proof of Address documents online at no cost.
