UIL calls for action to stop sabotage of Messina's Porto di Tremestieri
The UIL union in Messina, represented by secretary‑general Ivan Tripodi, says the construction of the Porto di Tremestieri is being deliberately stalled. Tripodi warned that "if anyone thinks they can turn the Tremestieri port into another unfinished work, they are wrong," and accused the port authority commissioner Francesco Di Sarcina of inactivity and the mayor Basile of failing to convene the permanent stakeholder table established on 19 January.
UIL urges all institutions to intervene, calls for the mayor to summon the table again, and stresses that completing the port is essential for reshaping the city’s urban layout and providing an economic boost to the whole region.
The union also criticized the lack of national meetings to secure missing financing and labeled the perceived sabotage as an "indecent crime" against Messina and its citizens.
