UK and Japan to seal $24 bn technology and investment partnership

The United Kingdom and Japan are set to conclude a series of agreements worth more than $24 billion in investment and technology cooperation during Japanese Prime Minister Sannae Takahashi's visit to London. A five‑year Japanese investment programme of over £9 billion will fund UK infrastructure and financial services, while up to £9 billion is earmarked for offshore wind projects in Scotland and the Celtic Sea, supporting about 5.9 GW of capacity. The deals are expected to create tens of thousands of jobs and launch joint work in artificial intelligence, semiconductors and quantum computing. Major firms such as Hitachi Energy, Rolls‑Royce and Eisai are slated to announce related investments, and the agreements will be signed ahead of the G7 summit in France in mid‑June.
