UK and Malaysia issue toy safety alerts for children

UK consumer watchdog Which? warned parents about the viral “Squeezy Dumpling” squishy toys after the Office for Product Safety and Standards recalled unbranded batches containing dangerously high levels of benzene. The recall advises parents to stop use, wash hands, and check for CE or UKCA markings, a clear manufacturer address, and any strong chemical odor.

In Malaysia, safety officials urged caregivers to inspect toys for small parts, cords, batteries, magnets, toxic paint and loose stuffing that can cause choking, strangulation or poisoning. Recommended checks include age‑appropriate labeling, certifications such as SIRIM, MS Standard, CE or ASTM F963, and purchasing from reputable retailers. Regular supervision and periodic “toy tests” are advised to prevent injuries.
