UK and Poland confront F-35 deployment hurdles

The United Kingdom’s Defence Investment Plan confirms the purchase of twelve F‑35A fighters for the Royal Air Force’s conversion unit, not for the NATO nuclear sharing mission, amid ongoing debate over replacing carrier‑capable F‑35B jets and tighter defence budgets. The RAF currently operates a fleet of about 50 F‑35Bs and plans to acquire a limited number of A‑model aircraft, with deliveries expected around 2030.

In Poland, the mayor of Gryfice is advancing a plan to erect 300‑metre wind turbines near the new military airbase at Świdwin. The Ministry of Defence has warned that such structures would breach the Military Terminal Control Area and could “significantly limit” low‑altitude operations of F‑35 and FA‑50 aircraft, prompting a prosecutor’s inquiry into the project.
