Portsmouth anti-immigration protests lead to multiple arrests

Anti-immigration protesters and counter-demonstrators gathered in Portsmouth, England, for a second weekend of unrest. The demonstrations, which included groups like the Portsmouth Patriots, focused on opposition to illegal migration. Counter-protests were organized by groups such as Stand Up to Racism to oppose far-right sentiment.

Police utilized new powers under the Crime and Policing Act to target individuals concealing their identities. This led to the arrest and charge of a 76-year-old man, Timothy Miller, for wearing a garment intended to hide his face. Other arrests included a 33-year-old man charged with highway obstruction and attempted criminal damage, and a 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

The unrest follows previous clashes at Eastney Marina, where protesters attempted to block migrants from being transported. Authorities have also sought to identify several men involved in violent disorder during those earlier incidents.
