UK Border Agency Seizes Record 12 Tons of Cannabis at Southampton Port
British Border Force intercepted a shipment of cannabis weighing 12 tonnes at Southampton port, breaking its own record for a single bust. The drugs were found in 1,200 containers that arrived from Canada in two sea‑freight shipments in May. The operation relied on intelligence sharing between the UK, Canadian border services and a regional organised‑crime task force, which led to the seizure and the arrest of three suspects on June 16. The haul, the largest since the agency’s inception, is expected to deal a significant blow to the trans‑national drug‑smuggling network targeting the UK market.
Authorities said the seizure underscores a continued commitment to collaborative enforcement against illicit drug flows and to protecting public health and community safety.
