UK clinicians and advocates push for NHS menopause care overhaul

A coalition of clinicians, professional bodies and patient groups has issued a consensus statement urging the UK government to translate the Renewed Women’s Health Strategy for England into a concrete NHS menopause service model. The proposal calls for menopause care to be integrated into the new Neighbourhood Health Service and existing women’s health hubs, allowing up to 95% of treatment to be delivered in primary and community settings. It highlights that around 6,700 women are waiting for menopause care, with 77% reporting no choice of treatment and 56% of Black women feeling dismissed or misdiagnosed. The coalition proposes clear national targets, dedicated primary‑care menopause specialists in every hub, ring‑fenced funding and an expansion of the HRT pre‑payment certificate, citing a £5 return for every £1 invested and the £25 million already allocated for 2023‑25.
