UK diplomats engage in Nigeria through new appointments and regional visits

The United Kingdom is strengthening its diplomatic and developmental ties with Nigeria through high-level engagements. Pete Vowles, the British High Commissioner-designate, has arrived in Abuja to assume his role, succeeding Richard Montgomery. Vowles expressed a commitment to deepening the bilateral partnership by traveling across the country to engage with various partners and understand Nigeria’s culture and energy.

Simultaneously, British Deputy High Commissioner Jonny Baxter has commenced a two-day official visit to Abia State. The visit focuses on key sectors including power, trade, transportation, education, and digital transformation. During the visit, Baxter will participate in the flag-off of the SPRIRET Initiative, a UK FCDO-funded program designed to promote digital inclusion in the state. His itinerary includes meetings with Governor Alex Otti and tours of local infrastructure projects, such as the Geometric Power Plant and the Ariaria International Market.
