UK issues urgent alert over Salmonella-contaminated Ukrainian eggs
The UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued an urgent ‘do not eat’ warning following the discovery of Salmonella Enteritidis in eggs imported from the Ukrainian producer Yasensvit Ltd. The contaminated products have been linked to at least 36 confirmed cases of food poisoning in England this year.
The recall applies to all pack sizes and best-before dates from the Kyiv-based company, specifically targeting eggs bearing the shell stamp code 3UA1012066. Authorities have advised consumers to check the code printed directly on the eggshells, as some UK businesses may have repacked the eggs under different brand names.
While major supermarket chains do not stock the affected products, the eggs have primarily entered the market through wholesalers serving the catering sector and food manufacturers, as well as some small independent retailers. The FSA emphasized that British-produced eggs are not implicated in the outbreak.
