UK Foreign Secretary sparks dispute with Israel over Gaza humanitarian crisis

British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has sparked a diplomatic dispute with Israel after describing humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip as ‘extremely horrific’. Following a meeting with international medical and relief workers, Miliband reported testimonies regarding the withholding of essential medicines and the deaths of children waiting for life-saving medical care.

Miliband stated that the United Kingdom must adopt ‘more firm’ positions regarding the situation in Gaza, suggesting that the current data necessitates additional government action. In response, the Israeli Foreign Ministry rejected Miliband’s claims, asserting that there are no restrictions on the entry of medicines into the Gaza Strip and that medical supplies continue to enter the territory.

The exchange comes amid reports from the Palestinian Ministry of Health regarding severe shortages in the Gaza health sector. According to the ministry, there is a 61% deficit in cancer and blood disease medications, a 47% overall medicine deficit, and an 85% shortage in laboratory testing materials.
