UK-Israel diplomatic dispute over Gaza humanitarian crisis

A diplomatic dispute has emerged between the United Kingdom and Israel following comments by British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband regarding the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. Miliband described conditions as ‘extremely horrific’, citing testimonies from medical and relief workers about the withholding of essential medicines and the deaths of children awaiting life-saving care. He suggested the UK must adopt ‘more firm’ positions to address the situation.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry rejected these claims, asserting that there are no restrictions on the entry of medicines and that supplies continue to enter the territory. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs further accused Miliband of ignoring facts, noting that 22,500 tons of medical supplies have entered Gaza since the October 2025 ceasefire.

Amidst this exchange, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported severe shortages in the Gaza health sector, including a 47% overall medicine deficit and an 85% shortage in laboratory testing materials. The tension escalated further when US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee accused the British government of antisemitism, stating on X that the government’s hatred of Jews ‘knows no bounds or facts.’
