UK government to ban airline fees for seating children with parents
The UK government has announced new measures to reduce travel costs and improve passenger experiences. Under the new regulations, airlines will be required to seat children under the age of 14 with a parent or accompanying adult free of charge. This policy aims to alleviate cost-of-living pressures, as families currently face potential charges of up to £104 for adjacent seating on return journeys.
Additionally, passengers will gain greater flexibility to correct simple name errors on flight bookings without incurring administrative fees. To improve safety, the government is collaborating with airlines and trade unions to implement an information-sharing system designed to identify and manage persistently disruptive passengers, following a rise in serious incidents in 2025.
These reforms align UK policies more closely with recent European Union regulations regarding child seating and name corrections.
