UK heatwave forecast sees temperatures rising to around 30°C

The Met Office has warned that a heatwave is likely to affect much of the United Kingdom in mid‑June. Forecasts show temperatures reaching the high 20s and potentially breaking the 30 °C mark in southern England and the South East, with the south‑west and north‑west expected to see highs of around 26‑29 °C.

Meteorologists cited a strengthening high‑pressure ridge and a shift in the jet stream as the drivers of the warmer, drier air. Dan Stroud of the Met Office said, "We're looking at temperatures climbing into the weekend, particularly on Saturday and Sunday… there is a chance of temperatures scraping into the above 30 degrees on Sunday, and then more so on Monday." Craig Snell added that “it’s hinting at 24 °C for London on Saturday, at least into the low 20s, maybe mid‑20s across the South East.”

Earlier in May, the UK experienced record-breaking heat, with 35.1 °C recorded at Kew Gardens in London and the first amber and yellow heat‑health alerts of the year issued. The current forecasts suggest a prolonged spell of above‑average temperatures, though official heat‑wave criteria have not yet been confirmed. Rainfall is expected to return later in the week before another period of settled, warmer weather arrives over the weekend.
