UK heatwave spikes North Wales night temps and slows Royal Mail

A heatwave across the United Kingdom is driving daytime temperatures above 35 °C in north‑east Wales and keeping overnight readings unusually high. Forecasts show 4 a.m. temperatures reaching up to 28 °C on Thursday, with night‑time values remaining well above seasonal averages through the weekend before finally dropping to around 12‑15 °C on Sunday. The elevated heat is expected to worsen sleep quality, contribute to school closures and increase vulnerability for older residents.

Royal Mail has issued a warning that the same heatwave is affecting delivery operations in Wales. Red‑alert conditions have been declared for several Welsh postcode areas, including Carmarthen and Pontyclun, as temperatures are projected to hit 36‑40 °C. The carrier cautions that high heat, staff sickness and resource constraints may cause temporary delays, and it is rotating deliveries to limit inconvenience for customers.
