The Met Office forecast temperatures of up to 31 °C in London on Monday 3 August 2026, with peaks of 34‑35 °C expected in the South‑East. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) placed amber heat‑health alerts on London, the East Midlands, East of England and the South‑East from 09:00 BST on 3 August until 09:00 BST on 5 August, and yellow alerts on the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, West Midlands and South West for the same period.

The agency warned that the heat could strain health and social‑care services and increase deaths, especially among people aged 65 and over or with pre‑existing conditions. It also flagged risks of indoor overheating, water‑related incidents such as cold‑water shock and drowning. UKHSA data released in early August estimated 2,877 heat‑associated deaths in May‑June 2026, a figure that could surpass previous annual records.

Government ministers have said a public consultation on workplace temperature guidance will be launched later in the year. Forecast models also show another heatwave possible next week, with up to 34 °C predicted in 15 English counties. Temperatures are expected to fall later in the week, with lows dropping to the low teens by the weekend.
