UK pledges naval mission to safeguard Strait of Hormuz navigation
The United Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to protect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, urging that the waterway remain free of violence, fees or any illegal impediments. Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN James Caruick told the Security Council that all parties must comply with their international law obligations.
London said it will continue to act through a defensive, multilateral naval mission jointly led with France to reassure commercial shipping. The UK also voiced support for the United States‑Iran memorandum on frozen assets and for ongoing negotiations between the two sides. Additionally, Britain welcomed International Maritime Organization efforts that have enabled several vessels and crews trapped in the strait to leave safely.
