UK police arrest 17 in major organised crime crackdown
The Metropolitan Police, in collaboration with His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), conducted a major operation against an organised crime group. More than 800 officers carried out dawn raids at 24 properties across London and the counties of Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Suffolk.
Seventeen individuals were arrested during the operation. Authorities suspect those detained hold senior roles within serious organised crime groups and are involved in related financial offences. The FCA reported that it has disrupted seven firms and is taking action against an additional 30 as part of the broader investigation.
During the execution of a warrant at a property in Cockfosters, Barnet, a police officer was stabbed in the leg. The officer was treated at the scene by colleagues and paramedics before being taken to a hospital; police stated his injuries are non-life-changing.
