UK police deploy armed units in Birmingham and Stoke-on-Trent

Armed officers from West Midlands Police cordoned off Westwood Road at the junction with Tame Road in Aston, Birmingham, on the morning of 9 July. The incident, described as a "stand‑off" at a private address, involved a police helicopter, drones and a large police presence lasting since around midnight.

The following night, Staffordshire Police sent firearms officers and paramedics to an estate in Abbey Hulton, Stoke‑on‑Trent, after reports of a knife‑related assault. Marked patrol cars were seen on Holdcroft Road and Haddon Place, and several arrests were made. The deployment followed a series of recent armed‑police incidents in the city, including earlier knife reports on nearby streets.
