UK police scandal over Henry Nowak murder case

In December 2025, 18‑year‑old Henry Nowak was fatally stabbed in Southampton by 23‑year‑old Vickrum Digwa. Police on the scene initially treated Nowak as a suspect, placing him in handcuffs despite his severe injuries. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight police later considered issuing a public notice that suggested the victim had instigated the confrontation, but the Crown Prosecution Service intervened, warning that such a statement could jeopardise the fairness of the trial. Digwa was convicted of murder and sentenced to at least 21 years in prison. Following public outcry, an internal investigation was launched into the officers’ conduct, and Chief Constable Alexis Boon publicly apologized to the Nowak family, acknowledging serious concerns about the handling of the case.
