UK police seize illegal e‑bikes in Humberside and Nottingham

Humberside Police seized 46 illegal e‑scooters and bikes during a two‑week operation in the Humber region, part of a national campaign to crack down on unauthorised motor‑powered two‑wheelers. Inspector Neil Hutchins said the force will continue to act against vehicles that pose a risk to road users.

In Nottingham, officers patrolled Old Market Square and Angel Row on 16 June and seized six illegal e‑bikes, serving warnings to owners and arresting one man for non‑compliance and lack of insurance. Sergeant Cai Kemish noted that the bikes, classified as motorbikes, are illegal on public roads without registration, tax, insurance, lights, plates, a proper licence and helmet, and can be used in criminal activity.

Both actions underline police efforts to improve road safety, reduce anti‑social behaviour, and encourage the public to report illegal e‑bike use.
