UK port operators invest in warehousing and crane capacity
Major logistics and port operators in the United Kingdom are undertaking significant infrastructure investments to address rising demand and expand trade capacity.
Peel Ports Group is investing millions of pounds to create over one million square feet of new Grade A warehousing. This expansion includes a 100,000 square foot facility at King George V Dock in Glasgow and a 900,000 square foot warehouse in Liverpool. The move aims to mitigate potential warehousing shortages and enhance supply chain resilience across Scotland and the North West.
Simultaneously, DP World is upgrading its UK port capabilities with the arrival of four of Europe’s largest quay cranes. Two of these massive cranes, weighing over 2,000 tonnes each, have arrived at London Gateway to support the construction of an all-electric berth as part of a £1 billion expansion. An additional pair is scheduled for delivery to Southampton, contributing to a £60 million investment in that terminal’s handling capacity.
