UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham criticizes Brexit impact

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has signaled a significant shift in official rhetoric regarding Brexit, stating that the departure from the European Union has brought more harm than benefit to the United Kingdom. Speaking at a Labour Party conference, Burnham argued that the promised ‘taking back control’ of laws, the economy, and borders has not materialized.

While Burnham has not ruled out a potential return to the EU in future Labour Party programs, his immediate priority is rebuilding closer cooperation and economic ties with Brussels. He aims to present specific alternatives for new, narrower relations during an upcoming summit with the EU scheduled before the end of the year.

The Prime Minister also expressed interest in addressing the ‘Made in Europe’ plan to ensure British industries are not negatively impacted by measures intended to reduce European dependence on China. Burnham intends to discuss these strategic matters further with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
