UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham rules out early elections until 2029

Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he will not call a snap general election before the end of the current parliamentary term in 2029, arguing that the 2024 electoral mandate provides the stability needed for domestic reforms and the United Kingdom’s commitments to NATO. He emphasized that the government will focus on completing its agenda rather than seeking an early poll.

Burnham also announced a major overhaul of Britain’s social‑care system. He described the existing welfare framework as “faulty” and plans to tighten eligibility for benefits, increase support conditions that encourage recipients to re‑enter the labour market, and curb rising costs. The reforms are intended to be introduced before the next election, aiming to make the system more sustainable while maintaining care for the elderly and disabled.
