UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer commits Britain to €90 bn EU loan for Ukraine

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom will join the European Union's €90 billion defence loan programme for Ukraine. The agreement will allow UK defence firms to bid for contracts funded by the loan, aiming to bolster Ukraine’s ability to resist Russian aggression while supporting British defence jobs and national security.

The pledge comes as Starmer prepares to leave office. In his final Prime Minister’s Questions session, he affirmed continued support for Ukraine and signalled the transition of power to his successor, Andy Burnham, after his resignation later this week. Starmer described the move as one of his last major foreign‑policy actions before stepping down on 20 July.
