UK Salmonella outbreak linked to imported eggs causes 207 cases

A major Salmonella outbreak in the United Kingdom has resulted in 207 confirmed cases and one death. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) reports that the infections, which occurred between August 11, 2025, and August 1, 2026, are linked to a single genetic strain of Salmonella Enteritidis.

Health officials believe the outbreak may be linked to imported eggs, particularly those used in catering establishments such as restaurants and cafes. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has stated there is no evidence that UK-produced eggs or poultry are involved in the outbreak.

Approximately 38% of those affected required hospitalisation, with two individuals developing life-threatening bloodstream infections. The cases span a wide age range, from infants to people as old as 90. The highest number of reported cases have been concentrated in London and Yorkshire and Humber. Investigators are currently working with food safety agencies to trace the specific source of the imported eggs.
