Health officials in San Diego County, California, have linked a Salmonella outbreak to raw, unpasteurized eggs supplied by Happy Hens, a poultry farm in Ramona. The investigation suggests the eggs were used to produce mayonnaise for deli items at the Ramona Family Naturals Market.

Since the initial identification of the cluster on July 28, 2026, the outbreak has expanded to 21 confirmed and probable cases, resulting in seven hospitalizations. This represents an increase from the 13 cases and four hospitalizations reported at the start of the investigation. In response, the market owner has ceased using raw, unpasteurized eggs in deli products.

Local environmental health and state agencies, including the California Department of Public Health, are continuing to investigate and have contacted other retail facilities that may have received products from the farm. Health officials noted that this specific Salmonella strain is not related to a separate outbreak involving shell eggs in the Midwest.
