UK student visa applications decline by 16%

The United Kingdom has seen a 16% decrease in sponsored study visa applications for the year ending August 2026, according to Home Office figures. Total applications from main applicants fell to 360,700 from 449,800 in the previous cycle.

There has also been a 22% reduction in applications from student dependants. Data indicates a weakening trend in the traditional August application peak, which serves as a primary period for the September academic intake. Applications in August 2026 dropped to approximately 99,500, down from 120,300 in August 2025.
