UK survey shows half of Britons mute holiday group chats
A research study by travel platform GetYourGuide found that 46% of Britons mute WhatsApp holiday‑planning group chats to avoid organising trips, and only 24% see themselves as the “holiday hero” who makes the trip happen.
Among those who take on the role, 22% spend a full working week (about 37 hours) planning, and 49% end up out of pocket after covering costs. A quarter of Gen‑Z travellers (24%) say they have faked illness to escape the task. Men are slightly more likely than women to claim the hero role (58% vs 53%). GetYourGuide is rewarding “holiday heroes” with a chance to win £5,000 in travel experiences and other vouchers.
