UK to see deepest partial solar eclipse since 1999 on Aug 12 2026

On 12 August 2026 the United Kingdom will experience a deep partial solar eclipse, the most dramatic since the 1999 event. Coverage will reach up to 96 % at Land’s End in southwest England and around 94 % in parts of Wales, with the eclipse peaking just before sunset.

The eclipse will be visible across the whole UK and Ireland, and will also be observable in much of Europe, though the path of totality will miss Britain entirely. Astronomers stress that looking at the Sun without proper solar‑eclipse glasses is unsafe. Hours after the eclipse, sky‑watchers can also enjoy the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower.
